Privacy Policy — Hebrew Subtitle Translator

Hebrew Subtitle Translator (“the extension”) is a browser extension that reads Hebrew subtitles burned into a video and shows their translation over the video. This policy explains what data the extension processes, where it goes and how long it is kept.
In short
- The extension works only in a tab where you turn it on, with its icon or Alt+T.
- Video frames are processed on your device. Only the subtitle line is sent to our translation server: as text, and now and then as an image of the subtitle strip.
- We don’t sell data or show ads. The page address and your browsing history are not sent. Work reports, if you turn them on, contain the site’s domain but no page addresses or subtitle text.
What happens on your device
When you turn translation on in a tab, the extension looks at the bottom part of the playing video several times a second and recognizes the subtitle text on your device. Frames are not saved and do not leave your device, except the subtitle image described below.
If our server is slow or unavailable, Chrome’s built-in translator may translate the line, also on your device.
The extension stores in your browser:
- your settings, such as the language and how the translation looks; if Chrome sync is on, Chrome syncs them with your Google account;
- a random installation number, created when you install the extension;
- recent translations, up to 5,000 lines, so a line you have already seen is shown without a request;
- the position of the subtitle frame, if you changed it for a site, by site address.
What is sent to our server
For each new subtitle line, the extension sends to our translation server:
- the Hebrew text of the line;
- or, if the line could not be read reliably on your device, an image of the subtitle strip at the bottom of the frame, not the whole frame. You can turn this off in Settings;
- up to five previous lines with their translations, to keep the translation consistent;
- the title of the page or video;
- the language to translate into;
- the random installation number.
Like any web server, our server also receives your IP address.
Not sent: the page address (URL), your browsing history, cookies, account data, audio or whole video frames.
Work reports (only if you turn them on)
Work reports help us find and fix problems during the beta. They are off unless you turn them on, on the welcome page or in Settings, and you can turn them off there at any time. While translation is on, the extension sends a report every 10 minutes and one more when translation stops:
- the extension version, the browser and its version, the operating system;
- the interface language and the language you translate into;
- the site’s domain, for example youtube.com — not the page address or title;
- how long the video played with translation on, and how many subtitle lines were found, translated and missed;
- how long translations took, from the subtitle appearing to the translation shown, and how long recognition took on your device;
- problem codes, for example “the video can’t be captured”, “protected video”, “the server didn’t answer”, “limit reached”, “recognition failed”;
- whether this is the last report of the session;
- the random installation number.
Reports contain no subtitle text, translations, images, page addresses or titles.
How the server uses the data
- Translation. The server passes the line (text or image), the previous lines and the title to Anthropic’s Claude model, which returns the translation. The installation number and your IP address are not passed to Anthropic.
- Shared cache. The server keeps the translation for 180 days under a hash (SHA-256) of the line and the language, so the same line is not translated twice. The Hebrew text, images, installation numbers and IP addresses are not stored in the cache.
- Limits and statistics. To prevent abuse, keep costs under control and see how the extension is used, the server counts per installation: minutes of translation, lines, answers from the cache, tokens and cost. It keeps these counters under a hash (SHA-256) of the installation number for 30 days, then deletes them; totals for all users together, without hashes, are kept for statistics. Counters per IP address use a hash of the address and are kept for the current day (UTC) only.
- Work reports are kept with the hash of the installation number for 30 days; after that only totals for all users together remain.
- Logs. Server logs contain counters only: response code, time, size and cost. They contain no subtitle text, titles, installation numbers or IP addresses.
Who processes the data
- Cloudflare, Inc. runs the translation server, the cache and the counters on its Cloudflare Workers platform. Cloudflare processes request data, including IP addresses, under its privacy policy.
- Anthropic, PBC translates the lines and reads subtitle images (Claude API) under its privacy policy and terms for the API.
Data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States.
We do not sell or rent data, use it for advertising or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information received from the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices
- Translation runs only in the tab where you turned it on and stops when you turn it off, reload the page or leave it.
- In Settings you can stop sending subtitle images.
- Work reports are off unless you turn them on; you can turn them off in Settings at any time.
- Removing the extension deletes everything it stored in your browser.
- Our server keeps nothing that identifies you directly: only the hash of the installation number, for 30 days, and the hash of the IP address, for the current day. For questions about your data, write to hebsubs.dev@gmail.com.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
Changes to this policy are published on this page with a new effective date. If the data sent to the server changes, this page is updated before the version with the change is released.

«Переводчик ивритских субтитров» (далее — расширение) — расширение для браузера, которое читает ивритские субтитры, вшитые в видео, и показывает их перевод поверх видео. Здесь описано, какие данные расширение обрабатывает, куда они уходят и сколько хранятся.
Коротко
- Расширение работает только во вкладке, где вы его включили, — значком или Alt+T.
- Кадры видео обрабатываются на вашем устройстве. На наш сервер перевода уходит только реплика субтитров: текстом, а изредка — картинкой полосы с субтитром.
- Мы не продаём данные и не показываем рекламу. Адрес страницы и история просмотров не отправляются. В отчётах о работе, если вы их включили, есть домен сайта, но нет адресов страниц и текста субтитров.
Что происходит на вашем устройстве
Когда вы включаете перевод во вкладке, расширение несколько раз в секунду смотрит на нижнюю часть идущего видео и распознаёт текст субтитра прямо на устройстве. Кадры не сохраняются и не покидают устройство — кроме картинки субтитра, о которой ниже.
Если наш сервер отвечает медленно или недоступен, реплику может перевести встроенный переводчик Chrome — тоже на устройстве.
В браузере расширение хранит:
- ваши настройки — язык, вид перевода; если в Chrome включена синхронизация, Chrome синхронизирует их через ваш аккаунт Google;
- случайный номер установки, созданный при установке расширения;
- недавние переводы — до 5000 реплик, чтобы уже виденная реплика показывалась сразу, без запроса;
- положение рамки субтитров, если вы меняли его на сайте, — по адресу сайта.
Что уходит на наш сервер
Для каждой новой реплики расширение отправляет на сервер перевода:
- текст реплики на иврите;
- или, если реплику не удалось уверенно прочитать на устройстве, — картинку полосы с субтитром внизу кадра, а не весь кадр. Это можно выключить в «Параметрах»;
- до пяти предыдущих реплик с их переводами — чтобы перевод был связным;
- название страницы или видео;
- язык перевода;
- случайный номер установки.
Как и любой веб-сервер, наш сервер видит ваш IP-адрес.
Не отправляются: адрес страницы, история просмотров, cookies, данные аккаунтов, звук и целые кадры видео.
Отчёты о работе (только если вы их включили)
Отчёты помогают находить и исправлять ошибки во время беты. Они выключены, пока вы не включите их на первой странице после установки или в «Параметрах»; там же их можно выключить в любой момент. Пока перевод включён, расширение отправляет отчёт раз в 10 минут и ещё один, когда перевод выключается:
- версия расширения, браузер и его версия, операционная система;
- язык интерфейса и язык перевода;
- домен сайта, например youtube.com, — не адрес страницы и не название;
- сколько минут шло видео с включённым переводом, сколько реплик найдено, переведено и пропущено;
- сколько времени прошло от появления субтитра до показа перевода и сколько заняло распознавание на устройстве;
- коды проблем, например «видео не удаётся захватить», «защищённое видео», «сервер не ответил», «исчерпан лимит», «сбой распознавания»;
- последний ли это отчёт сеанса;
- случайный номер установки.
В отчётах нет текста реплик, переводов, картинок, адресов страниц и названий.
Как сервер использует данные
- Перевод. Сервер передаёт реплику (текст или картинку), предыдущие реплики и название модели Claude компании Anthropic, и та возвращает перевод. Номер установки и ваш IP-адрес в Anthropic не передаются.
- Общий кэш. Сервер хранит перевод 180 дней под хешем (SHA-256) реплики и языка, чтобы не переводить одну реплику дважды. Текст реплики на иврите, картинки, номера установок и IP-адреса в кэше не хранятся.
- Лимиты и статистика. Чтобы защититься от злоупотреблений, держать расходы под контролем и видеть, как пользуются расширением, сервер считает по установке: минуты перевода, реплики, ответы из кэша, токены и расходы. Он хранит эти счётчики под хешем (SHA-256) номера установки 30 дней, затем удаляет; суммы по всем пользователям вместе, без хешей, остаются для статистики. Счётчики по IP-адресу используют хеш адреса и хранятся только за текущие сутки (UTC).
- Отчёты о работе хранятся с хешем номера установки 30 дней; после этого остаются только суммы по всем пользователям вместе.
- Журналы. В журналах сервера только счётчики: код ответа, время, объём и стоимость. Текста реплик, названий, номеров установок и IP-адресов там нет.
Кто обрабатывает данные
- Cloudflare, Inc. — на её платформе Cloudflare Workers работают сервер перевода, кэш и счётчики. Cloudflare обрабатывает данные запросов, в том числе IP-адреса, по своей политике конфиденциальности.
- Anthropic, PBC переводит реплики и читает картинки субтитров (Claude API) по своей политике конфиденциальности и условиям для API.
Данные могут обрабатываться за пределами вашей страны, в том числе в США.
Мы не продаём и не сдаём данные, не используем их для рекламы и никому больше не передаём, если этого не требует закон.
Правила Chrome Web Store
Использование информации, полученной от расширения, соответствует Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, включая требования Limited Use.
Что вы можете сделать
- Перевод работает только во вкладке, где вы его включили, и прекращается, когда вы его выключаете, перезагружаете страницу или уходите с неё.
- В «Параметрах» можно запретить отправку картинок субтитров.
- Отчёты о работе выключены, пока вы их не включите; выключить их можно в «Параметрах» в любой момент.
- Удаление расширения удаляет всё, что оно хранило в браузере.
- На нашем сервере нет ничего, по чему вас можно узнать напрямую: только хеш номера установки — 30 дней — и хеш IP-адреса — за текущие сутки. С вопросами о данных пишите на hebsubs.dev@gmail.com.

Расширение не предназначено для детей младше 13 лет.
Изменения
Изменения этой политики публикуются на этой странице с новой датой. Если изменится состав данных, которые уходят на сервер, страница обновится до выхода версии с этим изменением.
